Alitalia cancels some flights over short strike period

A four-hour strike by pilots, flight attendants and baggage handlers has been partially circumvented by Alitalia management in Italy.

On hearing of the four hour strike, Alitalia cut a number of flights over the period between noon and 4pm Monday.

Passengers were then ticketed for other flights during the day.

Unions for the Alitalia flight staff said they had organised the strike to protest against Alitalia's restructuring plans and lack of new contracts for personnel.
